I am very interested in the people in the Clear Spring area as I am sure some are probably distant cousins. My maternal 4th great-grandfather was William BEGOLD/BEGOLE who lived nine miles west of Hagerstown from as early as 1778. He then went west with some of the family and then moved to New York state in about 1806.
John, his oldest son, married Nancy Covenhoven/CONOVER/CROWNOVER/etc. John moved to and died in Darke Co, OH in 1851. nancy’s Aunt Polly married Jonathan Nesbitt, Sr. Another aunt, Betsy married Thomas Smith. A third aunt, Ruth, married James Prather.
John Begold had a brother named Upton. He was listed as a butcher in Clear Spring in the 1850 census. He apparently died between 1850 and 1860.
Even my Miller ancestors did not live a great distance from Clear Spring. My 3rd great grandfather, William Miller 1785-1851 lived in Frederick Co, MD and gave the name to Miller’s Bridge which carries Rt 77 over the Monocacy River (Used to be…Clear Spring Dist. Historical Ass, PO Box 211, Clear Spring, MD 21722)

No. 96-0218-CV in the circuit court for Frederick Co, MD Monroe W Stull Jr and Carolyn Jane Stull, 7125 Fish Hatchery Rd, Frederick, Md 21701 plaintiff vs unknown heirs, personal representatives, devisees and descendants in interest of Elias A Groshon, Thomas Picking, Mary Waltman and Daniel Fundenburg all deceased defendants. Order of Publication
The Object to the complaint…(is to remove) the cloud upon the title of the Plaintiff and that the Court shall declare that the Plaintiff has a good, marketable, fee simple, title to the property…That the plaintiffs have caused a survey to be prepared by Gary Castle & Associates…showing lots 80, 79, 78, an alley and a portion of Lots 40, 41, 42 and 43 property owned by Farms & Mechanics National Bank.
That the plaintiffs were under the impression that their house was located upon Lot 79, however, that upon the survey being prepared, it was determined that the house was located on Lot 80, for which the Plaintiffs do not have a deed in their names and that a portion of a Morton building as shown on the aforesaid Plat is on a portion of Lot 78, which they do not have a deed for, that the home located on lot 80 known as 7125 Fish Hatchery Rd is a log cabin home and has been in existence for over 100 years on said property and after examination of the title, it has been determined that said property was deeded from Peter BRENGLE, sheriff for Frederick County to Elias A. GROSHON by Deed dated Feb 15 1833 and recorded in Liber JS 42, Folio 282, one of the aforesaid Land Records
That Lot 78 was conveyed by George RICE, Sheriff for Frederick Co to Thomas PICKING by Deed dated Mar 20 1846 and recorded in Liber WBT 3, Folio 494, one of the aforesaid land records.
The 20′ paper alley as shown on the aforesaid plat is a portion of the plat of Lewistown as shown in Exhibit 1, which was originally part of the land conveyed to Daniel FUNDENBURG by Frederick FLORE, by deed dated Apr 1 1815 and recorded in Liber TB 1, Folio 530, one of the aforesaid Land records.
That in Exhibit C aforesaid, said F & M National Bank, Trustee conveyed a portion of Lots 40, 41, 42 & 43 to the plaintiffs herein which the said Daisy M STULL had obtained in a deed from I Mary STALEY dated 2 Apr 1954 and recorded in Liber 529 folio 249, …however, in a deed prior thereto from Mary E WALTMAN to Parsons NEWMAN, dated 8 apr 1930 and recorded in Liber in Liber 374, folio 190,…failed to include lot 40, however, in a prior deed to Mary E WALTMAN from William A WALTMAN dated 6 Jul 1895 and recorded in Liber JLJ 16, folio 135, …which refers to a deed for description set forth in deed to Wm A WALTMAN dated 5 Apr 1864, from John W JACKSON and Amanda C JACKSON, his wife recorded in Liber JWLC 1, Folio 484 ….said description refers to lots in the Town of Lewistown known as lots 40, 41, 42, & 43 thus the aforesaid Liber 374 folio 190 mistakenly did not refer to Lot 40. (The Mirror, Wedns Feb 28 1996, Frederick Co, MD)
