Ninian WILLETT b 30 Sep 1701 Prince George’s Co, MD m 1725 PG Co, MD Mary, d before 1773; d. 1773; Frederick Co, MD. Children: Ninian; Charles: Isaac.
The exact date of his birth was recorded in the Court Records of Prince Georges Co, MD because his father was Clerk of the Court. He was named after his father’s close friend, Ninian BEALL. He was listed as overseer of the highway the upper part of Mount Calvert, then the county seat, as stated in the Court records for Nov 1725 and Nov 1731 In Nov 1726, he was deeded 111 acres of a tract of land called “Perrys Folly” in the Manor of Calvert, and on 12 Sep 1726, he received a second tract called “Willett’s Folly” on the western branch of the Patuxent River. Both these came from the Lord Proprietor. His father deeded him 100 acres of land known as “Good Luck”, for natural affection and fatherly love. This was his home when it was deeded to him. He also purchased “Beall’s Chance” which adjoined “Good Luck.” In 1748 he served in Captain Samuel Magruder’s Foot Militia. Between 1750 or 1760 he moved to Frederick County, MD. In 1771 he bought 20 acres known as “Bedforeshire Carrier”. I have not yet seen my third theory addressed: That Elizabeth Harding, daughter of John and Elizabeth harding, was the first wife of Capt. Alexander Bell (of William, Alexander), not the wife of Alexander (of James, Alexander) who died in 1776. If this is a new idea to you, let me try to convince you. Letter continues with documentation for FrCo records-which I suppose to be Frederick Co, MD records, Nancy Pearre Leasure, 304 Upper College Ter, Frederick, MD 21701-4869 (Beale Genealogical News Dec 1995 Vol V #4)

Settlers of Maryland 1701-1730 (216 pgs) ($25); Settlers of Maryland 1731-1750 (306 pgs) ($30) & Settlers of Maryland 1751-1765 (367 pgs) ($32.50) by Peter Wilson Coldham continues the series originally begun by Skordas and continued in the first volume by Coldham 1679-1700. The dates shown in column 4 for grants of land in the 1701-1730 volume-unlike the dates in the first volume-are those recorded in the original registers for the signing of Patents.  The properties are arranged in alpha order according to the patentee/owner.  There is also an alpha index by tract names.  Information in the columns will show owner, county, tract, acreage, date, and what reference the information came from.  The introduction for each volume includes a list of county abbreviations and the reference key. The first 2 books were sent to FRECOGS for review, and I (TDL current to 15 May) added the additional information on the 3rd book listed about from a GPC flyer.  Information on your ancestors property may be listed in one of these volumes, but please REMEMBER: Is the tract you’re looking for in the proper time period, in the proper county for that year,  still carrying its original tract name? All three books are available from Genealogical publishing Co, 1001 North Calvert St, Baltimore, MD 21202. Postage and handling $3.50 for the first book; each additional book $1.25. MD residents 5% state tax; MI residents 6%.

Individual costs are as listed. Books in multiples of 2 or more are $2/book for shipping.
